The council of ministers form an important part of the Meghalaya politics. The ministers actually execute the decisions of the state government. The chief minister is the chief of this council in the politics of Meghalaya. The cabinet members and the state ministers make up the council.
The constitutional leader of the state government is the governor. The governor's actions depend on the decision taken by the ministers. In some exceptions, he is able to use his authority.
The Advocate General is the chief legal adviser of the state government in the politics of the state. He has the power to represent the government of Meghalaya if there is any crucial case. The advocate general can participate in the Legislative Assembly proceedings.
The jurisdiction of the High Court of Guwahati stretches over Meghalaya as well. Though the High Court's principal seat is located at Guwahati, there is a circuit bench at Shillong from the year 1974.
