Meghalaya Speaker

Shri Martin M. Danggo is the speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Having served in various capacities including the headmaster of Border Achik High School at Puksora in the West Khasi Hills, Sri Danggo is a long time congressman who is devoted to the cause of the social betterment of the poor and the downtrodden. Shri Danggo, honorable Meghalaya Speaker of Legislative Assembly is a native of Shipapara village in the West Khasi hills.

Political Career

Sri M.M. Danggo boasts of a long and illustrious political career before becoming Speaker in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. His political journey started in 1998, when he contested in the 6th General assembly elections for PDM, and emerged successful from 35-Margin constituency in the West Khasi Hills district. In 1999 itself, he became the Deputy Speaker of the state assembly, contesting as an opposition candidate and defeating the ruling candidate. Sri Danggo left PDM in 2001 and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). After winning in the 2003 assembly elections, he was sworn in as the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the 12th March of the same year.

Interests and Achievements

Sri Danggo, Meghalaya Speaker, is a well known educationist and is widely traveled. Having served in various government capacities, he made it through in the Meghalaya Civil Service examination, but declined posting because of his commitment towards the service of the people. However, he has continued to attend various seminars and meetings where he has addressed luminaries on issues of social upliftment and betterment of the economically and socially deprived. Sri Danggo has the distinction of becoming the first deputy Speaker of the North Eastern region to be elected as the Vice - Chairman to the North Eastern Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, when the fifth conference of the organization was held in Sikkim. Although young, he is already the recipient of various other laurels from various organizations of great distinction.
