Karimganj

Karimganj forms a part of Meghalaya city tours. Although, Meghalaya Karimganj falls under the backward districts in Meghalaya; yet, the city has its own charm.

  • Moreover, Karimganj is situated in the southern fringe of Assam. One of the major drawbacks of the site is that it is located in the remote end, where conveyance seems to be a matter of concern.

    The major link that connects Karimganj at Meghalaya with the other parts of the Indian territory is the National Highway 44. The Highway starts from Shillong, a district in Meghalaya, and reaches up to Agartala (situated in Tripura): the path also serves as a link between the different towns and cities in Meghalaya. The highway covers an area of about 83 kilometers across the district.

    Moreover, Badarpur, a district in Karimganj, is a major railway junction: it is also said to be the nexus in the region, covering the Barak Valley and southern parts of Assam. The North Frontier Railway, connecting the Barak Valley to the rest of the country, is the major track connecting Meghalaya with the rest of the country.

    The rivers in Karimganj also connects Meghalaya with the other parts of India. But, unfortunately, we do not come across any air port in Karimganj at Meghalaya due its high elevation: the nearest airport of Karimganj is at Kumbhigram.
