Nongstoin

Nongstoin in Meghalaya is a small town but has been in fame because of the mining of a special stone that has embroidery colors naturally within it and which is found here only. Moreover, Nongstoin is the city to have the first saw mill of Meghalaya, after which it became the main habitat of log works in the state. The functioning of the saw mill was later on stopped by the honorable Supreme Court.

Nongstoin of Meghalaya is the head quarter of the West Khasi Hills. The town lies 93 kilometers away from Shillong from where you can take up any local transport to Nongstoin. The nearest airport is the Barapani airport at Shillong. The nearest railway station is Guwahati railway station from where you can take a bus to Shillong and from there you can reach Nongstoin via bus or taxi.

The main tourist attraction in Nongstoin at Meghalaya is Nongkhnum Island. The most significant feature of this island is its size due to which it is counted as the second greatest island.
