Williamnagar

Williamnagar of Meghalaya which is a planned town, was earlier known as Simsanggre because of its location in the upper banks of river Simsang. Later in 1976, it was renamed as Williamnagar after getting inspired from the name of Meghalaya's first Chief Minister Captain Williamson Sangma.

Williamnagar in Meghalaya is the headquarters of East Garo Hills. The area flaunts a wide range of flora and fauna. Williamnagar is surrounded by deep woods from all around. The town offers a spectacular view of the natural habitat of the wild life.

The north eastern city hosts a salt lick which attracts various types of beasts from the jungles including elephants, tigers, etc. These days, Williamnagar at Meghalaya is laying stress on developing cultural, educational and socio-economical activities. Moreover, knowledge has been imparted on agricultural methods among the rural crowd by organizing training sessions and various workshops.

Williamnagar consists of a post office, a veterinary hospital, a police station, a civil hospital and a post office. Being the district headquarters, offices of major government departments along with the residential apartments are being set up here so as to facilitate government work.

Williamnagar has a well developed network of roads which connects it to other parts of the state. Regular buses are available for travel to and from places outside the city. The land around Williamnagar is very fertile and can support horticulture very well.

The environment of Williamnagar Meghalaya is very serene and due to less number of vehicles, the city is also pollution free.
