About Mizoram


There are several historic sources of information about Mizoram that quench the curiosity of the scholars and travelers. The hilly state encompasses an area of 21,087 sq. km and stretches between the latitudinal parallels of 21°58' North and 24°35' North and the longitudinal meridians of 92°15' East and 93°29' East.

Mizoram, one of the members of the seven sisters that coalesce to form northeast India, is bordered by the states of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. The state also shares an international boundary with Myanmar and Bangladesh. Mizoram's topography is marked by rugged hills laced by hilly streams and sylvan lakes. The mystic Blue Mountains locally known as the Phawngpui stands tall at an elevation of 2,210 meter marks the highest point in the state.

In order to visit the state, tourists usually fly down to the Aizwal airport. Several leading airlines like Indian Airlines, Alliance Air and Air Deccan have scheduled regular flights to and from the city. Tourists and visitors can also avail trains up to Silchar and drive down to Mizoram from there. The National Highway No. 54 passes through the state. A well developed network of roads connects the state with the cities of Silchar, Guwahati and Shillong. The Mizoram State Transport Corporation provides buses that ply passengers to and fro. Tourists can also avail local taxis to take them across the state.

Mizoram is populated by a montage of tribes, each of who have their own unique lifestyle and dialect that fascinate the sophisticated city slicker.
