A trip to the hilly terrains of Mizoram by air is the best and most convenient way of traveling to this northeastern state. In order to reach Mizoram by air, tourists have to fly down to the state's capital city Aizwal, which houses the only airport in the state.

The Lengpui airport is sited at a distance of 40 km form the capital city and is responsible for the air traffic of the entire state. There are air routes that connect Aizwal with the urban metropolis of Kolkata. The journey from Aizwal to Kolkata takes approximately 1 hour. The airport is also connected with Imphal and Guwahati and can be reached after a half an hour air sojourn. The major flights that operate from the airport at Aizwal belong to Indian Airlines and their offshoot Alliance Air as well as Air Deccan.

In order to aid the budget travelers, several airline operators that provide cheap flights like Alliance Air and Air Deccan are operating in the state. Alliance Air has scheduled regular flights from Kolkata to Aizwal. The airlines also provide another flight that hops from Kolkata to Imphal and finally to Aizwal takes off on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Another Alliance Air flight flies from Kolkata to Aizwal via Guwahati, four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays as well as Sundays.
