Governor of Mizoram

M.M. Lakhera is the honorable Governor of Mizoram. He was born at Jakhand Village in the princely state of Tehri Garhwal on 21st October in the year 1937. His father is late Shri Jaya Nand Lakhera who was a pathfinder in the field of education in Tehri Garhwal. Late Smt. Kalawati was his mother, who was a house wife. He had done his initial schooling from a Primary School at Jak-hand. He then joined the Rastriya Indian Military College in Dehra Dun. After completing school, M.M. Lakhera, received training at the National Defence Academy at Khadakvasla in Pune.

M.M. Lakhera joined the Army and the story after that is full of vigor and glory. He took part in Goa operation in the year 1961 and in the India-Pakistan war in 1965 and 1971 in the Jammu and Kahsmir Sector. He commanded the 4th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment in Jammu & Kashmir. The present Governor of Mizoram, His Excellency M.M. Lakhera has also served as a Deputy Commander of a Brigade in Manipur between 1981 and 82.

For his contribution towards the country, M.M. Lakhera, was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India on 26th of January in the year 1990. Several more awards followed during his course of service and even after retirement, he has been awarded with a number of awards like:
  • Param Vishisht Seva Medal
  • Ati Vishisht Seva Medal
  • Vishisht Seva Medal
Post retirement, M.M. Lakhera got actively involved into social activities. He was the Governor and Administrator of Pondicherry before he took over as the Governor of Mizoram from 25th July in the year.
