Kolasib

One of the prominent districts of Mizoram, Kolasib encompasses a total area of 1383 sq. km. The district of Kolasib of Mizoram has a total population of 60,977 according to the census data of the year of 2001. Located at a short distance of just 83 km from the capital of Mizoram, Kolasib is easily reachable by well maintained roads, railway tracks and air.

Kolasib district is divided into three major sub divisions of Vairengte SDO (S), Kawnpui SDO (S) and Kolasib SDO (S) for convenience of district administration. The two important towns of Kolasib are Vairengte and Kolasib, which is also the administrative headquarter of the district.

Blessed with the bounty of nature and salubrious weather, Kolasib draws several tourists who are enthralled and enchanted by the bewitching sight of the place. The ideal time to visit the beautiful place of Kolasib is from November to March. Some of the notable tourist destinations of Kolasib are:
  • Regional Research Station
  • Tlawng River
  • Bairabi Hydel Project
Most of the local inhabitants of Kolasib are engaged in agriculture. The native population speaks in Mizo language. English and Hindi languages are also spoken by the local inhabitants of the district of Kolasib.

Kolasib is well connected by road. The interested tourists can avail the train service till Silchar which is very close to Kolasib. The Lengpui airport, which is situated in the capital of Mizoram, lies close to Kolasib and connects the district with the rest of India by air.
