Serchhip

Serchhip is one of the prominent districts of Mizoram. Spread over a total area of 3576 sq. km, Serchhip encompasses a population of 55,539. The administrative headquarter of the district Serchhip is the town of Serchhip. The district of Serchhip is located at a short distance of 112 km from Aizwal, the capital of Mizoram.

The Serchhip district is further divided into three major sub divisions of N. Vanlaiphai SDO (S), Serchhip SDO (S) and Thenzawl SDO (S) for the convenience of district administration. The well maintained and broad roads of Serchhip connect the district to other parts of the state of Mizoram and to the rest of India as well.

Serchhip is the only major town of the district. Agriculture forms the backbone of the economy of the state of Mizoram. Most of the local inhabitants of Mizoram are engaged in agriculture. The farmers of the district of Serchhip practice shifting cultivation, which is referred to as jhum in common parlance, and produce several agricultural crops.

The local indigenous inhabitants of Mizoram speak Mizo language. However, in the recent years, the native population has started speaking English and Hindi language. Endowed with natural scenic beauty and salubrious weather, Serchhip district of the state of Mizoram attracts numerous tourists who are enchanted and enthralled by the captivating sight of the place.

The vast stretch of agricultural land, the undulating topography and vast reserve of fauna and flora, makes the district of Serchhip one of the important destinations for tourists.
