The Ngengpui Sanctuary is situated in the border region of the state of Mizoram. The sanctuary covers an area of 110 square kilometers and ranges over a wide extent covering the altitude from 200 meters to 1200 meters above sea level. The sanctuary is rich in floral growth and is also home to a large number and variety of mammals, birds and arboreal animals. The tourists may easily travel to the sanctuary which is well connected by bus routes to the capital city of Aizwal.
The Ngengpui Sanctuary in Mizoram is rich in the variegated growth of flora and fauna. The sanctuary preserves the rare species of plants and animals that make the sanctuary their home. The sanctuary is wooded by bamboo trees that grow in abundance in the forest region. The deep interiors of the forest is home to a number of wild animals like the clouded leopard, tiger, elephant, gaur, wild boar, barking deer, sambar, rhesus macaque, common langur and leaf monkey. Rare varieties of colorful birds also nest in the sanctuary. The birds comprise of flower-peckers, sun-birds, hombills, tragopans, pen-pheasants and the birds of the thrush family.
The management of the Ngengpui Sanctuary of Mizoram is supervised by the DFO Chhimtuipui Forest Division. The appointed officers of the sanctuary are the 5 Beat officers and the Range Officer who have their office headquarters at Ngengpui. The sanctuary is bordered on all sides by seven villages. Ngengpui Sanctuary is one of the most important of the Mizoram wildlife sanctuaries that is frequently visited by the tourists.
