Phulpui Grave

The Phulpui Grave is one of the most frequented tourist destinations of the state of Mizoram. There are two graves placed beside one another in the village of Phulpui, which is situated at a distance of 159 kilometers from the capital city of Aizwal. The graves stand as the memorial that commemorates the love of the two people who rest in peace.

The legend of the village has it that the Chieftain Zawlpala was married to the young and beautiful girl, Talvungi. She was an emblem of beauty in the village. As polygamy was permitted in the earlier centuries, Talvungi was subsequently married to the chief of Punthia and Rothai. However, the spouse of the chief was unable to renounce her love for Zawlpala. It was with the death of the chief that Talvungi returned to the village. The bereaved and grief stricken, Talvungi dug a pit beside the grave of Zawlpala and asked an old woman to assist her in killing herself. The remains of the beautiful Talvungi were placed in the pit.

The Phulpui Grave in Mizoram is a must in the list of sight seeing in Mizoram. The graves retell the story of love that attracts several young people who visit the village to view the two tombs of the chief and his spouse. The village is easily accessible from the city of Aizwal by bus that traverses the route regularly.
