At the present moment one of the major problems facing India is terrorism. It is assuming threatening proportions with every passing day. The number of terror attacks across the country has also increased lately. Indian Government has come out time and again with its list of most wanted individuals, most of whom are on the run from law having killed lots of innocent people.

Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar

Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar ImageDawood Ibrahim Kaskar is one of the most feared criminals in India and heads the underworld operations of Mumbai. He is 58 years old and his father used to serve in Maharashtra Police as a constable. He is said to have played a major role in the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai in 1993. It was one of the most devastating sequences of bomb explosions to have happened in India. It claimed 350 lives and also injured 1200 people. It is also stated that he had a role to play in the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai as well. It is said that he was closely associated with Osama Bin Laden, the deceased chief of Al Qaeda. He was also a part of the spot fixing scandal in IPL. Other activities that Ibrahim has indulged in include counterfeiting Indian notes and dealing in drugs. He also hampers the economic and security interests of India every now and then. Ibrahim is presently in hiding at Karachi, Pakistan.

Syed Salahuddin

Syed Salahuddin ImageSyed Salahuddin heads Hizbul Mujahideen, a militant organisation based in Kashmir. It is a terror outfit in favour of Pakistan and wants Kashmir to become a part of India’s northwestern neighbour. It is stated that Hizbul Mujahideen is associated with ISI and is backed by entities within Pakistan. Syed is held responsible for a number of terror attacks to have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Investigative Agency of India wants him badly. At present he is in Pakistan.

Masood Azhar

Masood Azhar ImageMasood Azhar is presently the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is a militant group based in the portion of Kashmir occupied by Pakistan. He is the terrorist whom Indian Government was forced to free in December 1999 in order to release the passengers of Indian Airlines Flight 814 (IC814), which had been hijacked and taken to Kandahar in Afghanistan. At that time Afghanistan was controlled by the Taliban. Jaish-e-Mohammed is held responsible for the parliament attacks of 2001. It is believed that he is presently in Pakistan.

Ilyas Kashmiri

Ilyas Kashmiri ImageIlyas Kashmiri heads Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami, a militant outfit and is also an operative of Al Qaeda. He orchestrated the German Bakery blast that happened in Pune and also had a role to play in the 26/11 attacks. He was responsible for the 2002 attack on the American Centre in Kolkata. He also organised the blasts that took place at Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Bengaluru in 2008. It had been reported that he had died in 2011 during a US drone strike. However, the reports were denied later on. His present status is unknown.

Sajid Mir

Sajid Mir ImageSajid Mir came to India during 2005 in the guise of a cricket fan, but he was actually a commander of Lashkar-e-Tayyeba. The visit was in preparation for the Mumbai attacks that followed in 2008. His visit kicked off a series of surveillance missions to India before David Headley, a Pakistani-American, was sent to do the recce. Headley answered to Mir. It was from a safe house, located in Karachi, that Mir guided the assault team that invaded Mumbai. He used a voice-over-internet line and also ordered several hostages to be executed. As per information provided by intelligence sources from West, Mir is currently captive in a safe house that is being operated by the ISI directorate. He is there along with Abdur Rehman Hashim, an erstwhile military officer, who had come with him to Delhi.

Hafiz Muhammad Saeed

Hafiz Muhammad Saeed ImageHafiz Muhammad Saeed is a leader of Lashkar-e-Tayyeba and also Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which United Nations branded as a terror outfit in December 2008. He is said to be one of the principal figures behind conceptualising the 26/11 attacks. He is also known to make hate speeches in public against India. Following 26/11, he had been under house arrest for a short time but since 2014 has been organising rallies against the US as well as India.

Chhota Shakeel

Chhota Shakeel ImageHe is a close associate of Dawood Ibrahim and like his master he too is supposed to have played a major role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. He had also purportedly attacked Chhota Rajan during September 2001 in Bangkok. After the death of Osama Bin Laden, he is supposed to have fled to Saudi Arabia from Pakistan.

Zaki-Ur-Rehman Lakhvi

Zaki-Ur-Rehman Lakhvi ImageZaki-Ur-Rehman Lakhvi founded Lashkar-e-Tayyeba. He was also one of the masterminds behind the 26/11 attack. Over the years, LeT has been responsible for many terror attacks across India and right now is regarded as one of the most fearsome terror outfits active in India. He is presently held captive in Pakistan for his role in the 26/11 attacks.

Anees Ibrahim

Anees Ibrahim ImageHe is the younger brother of Dawood Ibrahim and also one of his most trusted aides. He has participated in every criminal activity orchestrated by Dawood. He is the person who makes all the arrangements necessary to carry out his brother’s work. He was shot in 2009 by members of an opponent gang. Ever since, not much is heard about him.

Major Iqbal

Major Iqbal was also one of the brains behind the 26/11 operations. He is an officer in the ISI as well as a Major in the Pakistan Army. He was the person who handled David Headley. He recruited him, and then trained and directed him so that he could carry out his recce activities in India. At present India wants the voice sample of Iqbal so that it can prove that he had played a role in guiding Ajmal Kasab and his associates on phone.
