Who will be the next PM of India in 2014?

The race is about to begin and India will have its next Prime Minister in 2014. But who will be the next PM of India, is the question everyone is asking. The main opposition party, BJP, has fielded Narendra Modi as their prime ministerial candidate, whereas Congress has yet not declared it. The last two general elections in 2004 and 2009 were lost by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Options at present are the BJP, the Congress, their alliances, or a third, fourth or fifth front. But the main place is either of Congress or BJP.

As per a survey (The India Today Group-CVoter Youth Survey 2013) conducted collectively by the India Today Group and CVoter, shows that first-time voters want present Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the next PM of India. For the survey 5,000 youths aged 18 to 22 years were selected. 47% of them were in the favor of Modi as the next Prime Minister, while  Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi received 34% votes.

In another survey by Hindustan Times, Narendra Modi received 38% votes and Rahul Gandhi scored 23% votes. Apart from this, Manmohan Singh received 14% votes, LK Advani 6%, Sonia Gandhi 5% and Nitish Kumar 3% votes. In case the Third Front wins, who will come to power? In such a scenario, Nitish Kumar gets 21% votes, followed by Mamata Banerjee (14%), Lalu Prasad Yadav (13%), Mayawati (11%), Jayalalithaa (11%) and Mulayam Singh Yadav (7%) votes. Main areas of concern for voters are inflation, corruption, petrol prices, job creation, law and order and slow economic growth.

In Indian General Election 2014, political parties will fight for 543 seats in the Lok Sabha. To form the government, 272 seats are required out of the total. As per the Constitution, General Lok Sabha Election must be held after five years or when the parliament is dissolved by the president. The 16th Lok Sabha Elections will be held next year in 2014 when the term of present would come to an end.

Who will win 2014 General Election?

Will Narendra Modi be the next Prime Minister of India?

Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in October 2001 and served the longest tenure as CM. He and his team is responsible for the economic growth of Gujarat. Under his leadership, several new and pending projects have been initiated, such as Panchamrut Yojana, Sujalam Sufalam, Krishi Mahotsav, Chiranjeevi Yojana, Kanya Kelavani Yojana, etc.

Narendra Modi looks like a ray of hope and symbolizes something new. His every speech and rally is very impressive and seems as if the inner voice of the common man is coming out. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but learnt the qualities of a true leader through experience. Modi seems to be a new success story.

Points favouring Modi

  • There is a nationwide wave favoring Modi because of his impressive speeches on his work in Gujarat.
  • Narendra Modi is seen as an able and efficient administrator.
  • For business tycoons, Modi is a political enforcer who can push business to a great level. He works on the model of ‘decentralisation of planning and empowering people’.
  • Under the governance of Modi, nearly 18,000 villages in the state have been electrified.
  • Gujarat is home to many tribes, and yet dissenters like Naxalites have not been able to create an impact.
  • His assertive, confident and decisive speeches give hope. India needs a confident leader who can stand up for the country. Modi is also a good listener and knows his task of processing information.

Points against Modi

  • The disgrace of 2002 riots associated with him is still there. Though he has proved himself as an able administrator but many people cannot separate him from those riots. All the investigations have given green signal, but only last year Maya Kodnani, one of his former ministers, has been sentenced to 28 years in jail because of her involvement in killing 97 people in Naroda Patiya. Political observers also say that it might happen that party might get less votes from Muslims and moderate Hindus.
  • Though we see huge crowds in every rally of Narendra Modi, it is not sure that whether it will translate into votes. In the general elections of 2009 also, he was a major crowd-puller but could not secure many votes. Modi had campaigned both in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, but BJP lost in Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.

Will Rahul Gandhi be the next Prime Minister of India?

Another plausible candidate for the position of Prime Minister is Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. So, speculations are rife on whether Rahul Gandhi can be the next PM of India. Rahul Gandhi represents young India and youth. But so far, he has no political achievements and is yet to prove himself as a leader. He also has no experience in governance.

The Rise of Arvind Kejriwal as a Potential Third Candidate

Even though the consideration of the idea of Kejriwal as PM borders on ridiculous, the media has already started warming to the theme. The surprise success witnessed by the AAP in Delhi has prompted party leaders such as Yogendra Yadav to raise their voices in support of “Kejriwal as PM”. The AAP has too small an influence area as of now, and it can’t hope to do much in the absence of clear agendas and policies on several sensitive issues. However, the recent events have proved that any kind of upset is possible in politics, so it wouldn’t be wise to completely rule out the AAP. Even with 30-40 seats in the Lok Sabha, AAP can play spoilsport to Modi’s ambitions.

Indian now needs a leader who has a vision to lead India, a vision that is the result of his or her experience.
