It has been 100 days since the Saffron-clad Yogi Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Adityanath was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 19 March 2017. According to Adityanath, “his government is working for all sections of society without any discrimination.” The CM in a statement said that there had been no development in the state for the last 15 years, and the citizens of Uttar Pradesh had been facing multitude of caste-based and dynasty politics issues. He believes that such was the case because of corruption and nepotism in the past years. Adityanath is extremely satisfied with the work done by the government in these hundred days. “We want to assure people that government has started initiatives to take UP forward on the path of development,” he said. At a press conference, Yogi released a booklet “100 din vishwas ke” on his government’s performance since he assumed office on 19 March. According to him, the BJP government has helped UP in the following ways:
- The Chief Minister is all set to sign an agreement with Asian Development Bank for a loan of Rs 1,950 crore for construction of eight district roads at a cost of Rs 2,782 crore.
- The innovative farm loan waiver scheme to the tune of Rs 36,000 crore for 86 lakhs small and marginal farmers is only going to help the agricultural sector by making the farmers viable for fresh credit.
- Cane dues of over Rs22,517 crore were paid to sugarcane growers in the state under the regime of Adityanath.
- Since the economy of the state is based primarily on agriculture, Adityanath has decided to give priority to issues related to farmers.
- According to Adityanath, this is the first Government in 15 years which has been able to run a corruption-free and a transparent regime.
- There has been a record purchase of wheat from the state.
- 24-hours electricity has been provided to every household.
- A successful anti-land mafia task force has been established.
- Mathura-Vrindavan and Ayodhya-Faizabad have been converted into a Corporation.
- Introduction of e-tendering in all the departments to end corruption.
- The women in UP are safer after the formation of anti-romeo squads.
- The CM has decided to observe 2017 as the ‘Garib Kalyan Varsh’.
The Reaction of the Opposition and the Media
The reaction of the opposition as well as the media has not been in favour of Adityanath.
- The opposition parties alleged that nothing constructive has been done by the government and the law and order in the state has further deteriorated.
- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the Yogi Government is taking credit for schemes and projects which had originally been initiated by his government.
- SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury also stated that the 100 days of the BJP government has been a failure and alleged that the law and order in UP is out of control with rapes being committed inside the police stations and even in the heart of the state capital.
- UP Congress spokesperson Amarnath Agarwal has stated that goons have now shifted to the BJP and they are ruling the roost.
- BSP, RLD and other opposition parties have also termed these 100 days under the regime of Adityanath as a total failure.
- The Media is also not very happy with Adityanath. While the CM himself called a press conference to showcase what his government had done in 100 days, he chose to walk away from it after answering just a single question. According to media, Adityanath seemed unprepared to take any questions.
100 days is not a substantial time frame to either praise or criticize a government. The people of India, especially UP have to be patient and wait and watch if the Yogi Government will work towards the betterment of the state.
