While some of them are still glorifying the industry with their presence, there are those who bereaved us with their sudden demise. Remembering the achievements of such gems, we take a look at 8 Bollywood celebrities who died too young!

1. Madhubala

Known as the “vintage beauty of India”, Madhubala was one of the greatest actresses of Bollywood. With a killer smile that captivated millions of fans, she was often compared to the legendary beauty Marilyn Monroe. In a sad revelation, the film industry got to know about her heart disease which she had kept to herself. At an early age of 36 in the year 1969, the brave damsel succumbed to her illness and left the industry in deep pain.

2. Guru Dutt

A multi-talented gem of Bollywood, Guru Dutt was an actor, producer and a successful director of 1960s. His contribution to the industry speaks of an unparalleled devotion that ushered the golden period of the Indian Cinema. But as destiny had it, Guru Dutt was found dead in his apartment in the year 1964. It was a disheartening case of suicide.

3. Meena Kumari

One of the most successful actresses of 1970s, Meena Kumari was a sincere performer who was praised for her exceptional beauty and absorbing choice of roles. Unable to cope with the upheavals of her personal life, she developed an unruly alcohol dependency that took her away from life. The ‘Queen of Tragedy’ died a tragic death herself at an un seemly age of 39!

4. Sanjeev Kumar

An actor of prolific charm and talent, Sanjeev Kumar rose to fame for his versatile performances that truly impressed the audience. Delivering blockbusters one after another, he soon became a superstar of his generation. Ironically, an actor who played the role of a 50-year old to perfection, could not complete 50 in his life. He left the world at an age of 47 after succumbing to a major heart-attack.

5. Smita Patil

A beautiful actress and a National Award winner, Smita Patil was one of the finest stars of Bollywood. She received a Padma Shri for her respectable contribution towards the upliftment of women. A boastful feminist of her time, Smita Patil lost to death at a young age of 31 due to complications in childbirth.

6. Vinod Mehra

An eminent star of Bollywood, Vinod Mehra took over the industry with his dashing personality. He worked both as a main lead as well as a supporting actor and delivered many successful films in a short time span. As destiny struck him, in the year 1990 he suffered a severe heart attack and left us at an unexpected age of 45.

7. Divya Bharti

Starting her career at a tender age of 13, Divya Bharti soon achieved great heights of success in Bollywood. She was beautiful and vivacious and was often referred to as the future queen of Bollywood! She was only 19 when the unfortunate news of her death left the industry grief-stricken. Even though it was said that she fell down from the balcony of her apartment on the 5th floor, her death remains a dark mystery till today.

8. Jiah Khan

The most recent loss that Bollywood suffered was from the death of the contemporary actress Jiah Khan. After making a controversial debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in a film called “Nishabd”, she bagged a role in films like Ghajini and Housefull, both of which became quite successful. In June 2013, Jiah committed suicide by hanging herself at her Juhu residence. She was only 25.

The glitzy life of the Bollywood stars seems significantly appealing to the public. But what remains unrevealed are the complex problems these hardworking gems struggle against during their lives. The sudden departure of our favourite stars from our lives leaves a silent pain in our hearts and all we can do is remember them forever.
