Baahubali 2

bahubali2 breaks all records

Baahubali 2 has been one of the most anticipated films of recent times and following its release the film has continued to create its own history with some unprecedented box office collections. Just a week has passed and the film – directed by SS Rajamouli – has already garnered in excess of INR 860 crore all over the world. The film that features South Indian superstar Prabhas in the titular role, has earned INR 695 crore in India itself and INR 165 crore in overseas markets. Ramesh Bala, a trade tracker, has tweeted as much. The film has already surpassed its predecessor Baahubali that had earned INR 650 crore in all.

What are the analysts saying?

Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai had earlier said in a tweet that Baahubali 2 crossed the entire collections of Baahubali in just six days. It is also expected that the film – also starring Rana Daggubati in the role of the lead antagonist – will break another major record as well. The film will soon become the highest-ever grossing film from India in the US. In that respect it will overtake Dangal that starred Aamir Khan in the lead role. This has also been confirmed by Taran Adarsh, one of the most well-known trade analysts in India.

What is Bollywood saying?

Apart from its never-seen-before success, Baahubali 2 has garnered praise from some of the leading lights in Bollywood – the Hindi film industry of India – as well. Priyanka Chopra, who has made a mark in Hollywood, has congratulated Rajamouli and Karan Johar for their spectacular efforts. Mahesh Bhatt has called the film a game changer, saying how it redefines the very genre of Indian films, and Abhishek Bachchan has loved the film to the hilt. Apart from Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, the film also stars leading ladies such as Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, and Tamannaah Bhatia along with well-known actors Nasser and Sathyaraj. The latter stars as Katappa, the one whose motive behind killing Baahubali sparked interest in the film in the first place.

Box office collections in India

In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh the film earned INR 166-168 crores at the end of the first week. In Karnataka, in the same period, the film has earned INR 63-65 crores. In Tamil Nadu, the film has earned between INR 58-60 crore while in Kerala it has grossed between INR 38-40 crores. The Hindi version of the film that has been released in the rest of India has earned between INR 342-345 crores.

Box office collections in overseas markets and overall records

In the US the film has earned almost 13.2 million dollars. For the rest of the world, the film’s collections have come to INR 86 crores. In terms of overall collection the film has already left behind PK, the Aamir Khan film that earned INR 792 crores. In fact, it has also become the first Indian film to have entered the INR 800 crore club in the first week itself. The global theatrical rights of the film were sold at INR 350 crores and the buyers have already raked in profits by earning INR 431.3-435.3 crore in that respect.  The film is now looking to earn INR 600-700 crore in the overseas markets.
