Chennai Express Movie Review

Chennai Express

Chennai Express

Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone

Directed by: Rohit Shetty

Music: Vishal-Shekhar

With a great heck of buzz around, the much awaited flick Chennai Express finally hit the theaters today. For all the SRK fans, the superstar is back with the romance of Dilwale Dhulaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ). The first day of Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express had good occupancy in most theaters. When it comes to Rohit, one can always expect bountiful gags, fun and of course flying cars! Chennai Express is a complete entertainer with romance, hilarity and action.

Plot: The story revolves around Rahul who wants to go to Goa for a vacation but gets caught in undesired circumstances and how his life becomes a roller-coaster ride after meeting Meena.

Performances: When it comes to romance, no one can beat Shah Rukh. With the same magic of DDLJ, SRK looks as charming as ever. The king of romance has an amazing comic timing and this time he even tries his hand on action! Though action is not his forte, he performs decently well in the high-end action sequences.

Deepika Padukone pulls of the role of a Tamil girl with a lot of grace and panache. She looks gorgeous in the South-Indian attire and adapts to the accent finely. Deepika surprises the audience with her bone-tickling humour. She is truly a delight to watch.

The chemistry between the Om Shanti Om pair is enticing and likeable.

Music:  The music of Chennai Express has been composed by the duo Vishal-Shekhar. The album is an ordinary one with hints of the 90s. The songs have South-Indian elements in sync with the theme. Tracks like “Titli” and “Tera Rasta” are breezy romantic numbers, soothing to the ears. The best from the album is “Thalaiva”, a tribute to the Southern King, Rajnikanth.

What’s good: The film has ample humour, action, an exceptional cinematography and of course SRK, a reason big enough to watch this movie!

What’s bad: The plot has nothing exceptional about it. It’s a usual storyline with sequences from some of the 90s movies. Too much of Tamil with no sub-titles makes it difficult to understand.

All in all, Chennai Express is a masala entertainer propelled with a combination of the North and the South. The magical combination of Rohit Shetty and Shah Rukh Khan has effectively worked out for everyone. Definitely a must watch this weekend!

Verdict: Board the Chennai Express for a joyful ride!
