We know that Mohit Suri is a man of boundless talent and proficient calibre. Since his directorial debut with Zeher, this man has been delivering blockbusters one after the other. Probably which is why Ek Villain had mustered sky-high expectations as soon as the trailer hit the silver-screen. But as they say, too much expectation only leads to disappointment and that’s exactly what happened with this notably hyped film! Largely inspired by a Korean film called I Saw the Devil, Ek Villain is a psychological thriller backed by the love story of a villain. While the Korean version was abundantly horrific as a thriller, Ek Villain is gets much confusing as the story unfolds to reveal the actual villain!

Plot: A ruthless goon encounters a beautiful girl who is full of life; whose aim is to pull this menacing figure out of the darkness he is living his life in. Just as the villain conforms to change, the girl gets cluelessly murdered by a psychotic villain turning the plot into a revenge drama.

Performances: Siddharth Malhotra is one of the most talented discoveries of Bollywood in the recent times. With exceptional potentialities, he has proved himself to be much ahead of the other actors of his league. Each and every sequence by him is donned with impressive precision and professionalism. This man knows how to emote perfectly and this makes him a star in himself!

Shraddha Kapoor is innately fresh and vibrant. With her cute face and chirpy nature, she perfectly splices with her character making it look absolutely surreal. There is definitely something about her that natural demands attraction. As for her acting abilities, she seems to have improved drastically in comparison with her last film Aashiqui 2.

One could have never imagined Reteish Deshmukh as a villain after having known his humorous side. But breaking away from the hell, Reteish leaves no stone unturned in proving his dexterities. With a simple look and silent eyes, this man makes for one of the most petrifying villains one would have ever seen. This is the most impressive work delivered by him so far.

Aamna Shariff makes a comeback to the silver-screen after a long interval and proves to be as efficient as ever. Even in a short role she totally justifies her character.

Music: Whether or not the movie fares well, the music album of Mohit Suri’s films has always rocked the music charts with abounding success! And this unexplainable magic works yet again for this man! The music of Ek Villain has been composed by extremely talented Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari with six astoundingly soulful tracks. Each and every composition is so touching and hummable that one could listen to it on repeat. The entire album has already become a huge sensation!

What’s Good: Stupendous performance by all the actors, a couple of thrilling sequences and the super-melodious music score.

What’s Bad: The inefficient editing that makes the film so confusing, uninteresting screenplay and a loose narration that ruins the thrill and suspense.

Ek Villain definitely had very high expectations from the audience and this can be seen its theatre occupancy right on the first day! Not only were the promos interesting enough but also the fact that it is a Mohit Suri film, made it even more promising. Unfortunately, the film does not live up to the high standards that Mohit has already set in his past records. How I wish the movie could have been as groundbreaking as Aashiqui 2! Nonetheless, the resplendent performance by the actors cannot be faulted for movie’s shortcomings. Watch Ek Villain for Siddharth and Riteish- the two new villains of the industry!

Verdict: Every love story is incomplete without a villain, even if it is the villain’s own story!
