Politicians suffering from foot in the mouth disease

What is up with our politicians these days? They seem to be speaking too much and suffering from foot in the mouth disease. Another thing to note is that all of them are saying something or the other connected to woman. If Abhijit Mukherjee, son of President Pranab Mukherjee called the women protesting against  the Delhi gang rape as “highly dented-painted”, CPI-M leader Anisur Rahman went one step ahead and asked the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee how much she will charge after getting raped. He was apparently ridiculing the compensation policy for the rape victims by the state. His statement ran like this ,”We have told the chief minister in the assembly that the government will pay money to compensate rape victims. What is your fee? If you are raped, what will be your fee?”  We even saw Narendra Modi taking potshots at Shashi Tharoor by calling his wife a “Rs 50 crore girlfriend”. Then there was the statement by Sanjay Nirupam where he reportedly told Smriti Irani, “till some time ago you were dancing on the TV screens and now you have become a psephologist.”

Question comes to mind is this the way political dialogues are made? Are political statements, diplomatic arguments, strategic replies thing of the past? Do we now have in its place an open agenda which states, say what you feel like? Why is this happening on a massive scale? On one hand we are trying to strengthen the laws and look into the fact that women are not abused after the spurt of incidents which have jolted us from our stupor but  at the same time if this is how our leaders are going to pass comments then which way we are heading actually?

What is the solution? Should we as the common people even try to find out the solution? Aren’t our political representatives supposed to maintain a diplomatic stance even when talking about the opponent? When did politics lose its strategy and the debates and when it did it become like this. Or these signs were hidden all this while but we failed to recognize them?  We need an order urgently in the system it seems or else things will go out of hand as this is a spiral and it would lead to further uncomfortable situations. But who is willing to straighten the creases, that is the ultimate question and we don’t have a ready answer to it as of now.
