A walk around Mount Abu, Rajasthan

Whenever I hear the word Rajasthan, it brings to my mind only heat and sweat. Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan and quite is opposite in topography to the rest of Rajasthan. It is in the Aravalli Range, the oldest mountain range in the world. In the evening, I found Mount Abu to be the coldest place during my cycling tour so far. I was feeling quite relaxed from the heat I have been through. The friend I was staying with took me to the Nakki Lake. The Nakki Lake is known as “The Heart of Mount Abu”. The economy of this city is based on tourism. You will find many hotels and resorts being opened up in and around the city.

In the evening, most people make their way to the Old Market and the Nakki Lake, which is the most happening area in the town, where they hang out around the lake and enjoy softy. My friend told me the Mount Abu is quite famous for its softy and the Abu Road. Also, a city 20 km down of Mount Abu is famous for ‘rabri’.

The Nakki Lake is a beautiful lake with a promenade built around it where people walk or sit on benches. It is completely a relaxed atmosphere. The Nakki Lake needs a little bit of cleaning as its water stinks on the other end of the lake, opposite to the market side. I climbed up to the “Toad Rock”, from where I got a mesmerising view of the Nakki Lake and the Mount Abu town. The Toad Rock got its name from its toad-like shape. While coming down to the Nakki Lake from the Toad Rock above, I saw a board claiming something very interesting. Check out the photo:

There are various other strange and different kinds of rock formations around the Mount Abu town which are sure to be a never-before experience. As the income of this town is based on tourism, it is common knowledge that shops charge local people and tourist differently.

My first evening at Mount Abu was quite relaxing and enjoyable. I will spend few more days here and then I will move further on my cycling trip into the North Indian summer heat.
