Location: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

Popular as the City of Lakes, Bhopal is also known for the significant shrine of Moti Masjid. It was built in the year 1860 by Sikander Begum, daughter of Qudisiya Begum and the history of the mosque is associated with her emancipated deeds and thoughts. She brought a revolution in the territory and led to architectural development and got many roads, buildings and monuments built, Moti Masjid being one of them.

The architecture of the mosque resembles that of the famous Jama Masjid in Delhi, however, it is relatively smaller in size. Made of dark red bricks, the main edifice has a marble facade while the main prayer hall is constructed with lustrous white marble that shimmers like a pearl and thus, the mosque got its name as the Pearl Mosque. Two red minarets with golden spiked cupolas stand proud at either sides.

The mosque is easily accessible through local or private transport. Morning is the best time to visit the mosque as then it is less crowded. There is no entry fee to visit Moti Masjid. Shaukat Mahal, Van Vihar National Park, Lower Lake and Birla Museum are among other attractions located near the Moti Masjid.
