72.5 meters high, the  Qutub Minar is India’s tallest minaret. The monument is an important identity of the city of Delhi and even the Delhi metro card has its image. Made of red sandstone and marble, the Qutub Minar’s construction was commenced by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1192 and was completed by Iltutmish.

There are 379 stairs in this five storey Minaret, but admission is prohibited due to a series of accidents that took place there.The Qutub Minar is designed so intricately that each floor has a unique pattern. The first storey or the base has an alternate angular made with circular fluted sandstone, the second floor has round fluting, while the third one has just an angular fluting. The top two floors are made of marble and sandstone. Verses from the Quran are inscribed on the walls of the  Qutub Minar. Lush green gardens surround the Minaret.

There is a mosque called Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque in the complex of Qutub Minar. It is also the first mosque built in India. One cannot miss the seven meters high, Iron Pillar in the courtyard of the mosque. It is believed that if you are able to encircle it with you back against the pillar, your wish will be fulfilled.
