June-July are the official months of shopping since these are the months of heavy discounts and great offers! While thinking about some of the most enjoyable places to shop from, the magnificence of Kolkata surmounted my mind. So today, I decided to share with you the top five shopping hot spots in Kolkata that you will absolutely fall in love with!

1. New Market
Location: Lindsay Street, off Chowringhee Road
Also known as the Hogg’s market, this is the oldest market and also the most popular market in Kolkata. After a fire n the year 1985, a part of it was reconstructed and was given a brand new look. With over 2000 stalls to shop from, this place is found to be crowded all through the day. Eye catching jewellery, saris, bags and footwear are available at a very reasonable rate here.

Saturday-Until 2.30 pm

2. Dakshinapan Shopping Center
Location: Ghariahat Road in Dhakuria
I particularly like this one since it is an open-air shopping centre! Indian handicrafts and artifacts are the prime attractions of this paradise. It is also one of the best places in Kolkata to buy special terracotta products and Indian clothing. And when you get tired, grab yourself a cup of an enticing fruit flavored tea from Dolly’s Tea shop.

3. The Forum Mall
Location: Elgin Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Sarani
If you are a fan of upmarket shopping, this is the perfect place for you! It was constructed as an office tower before transforming it into one of the biggest malls of Kolkata. With over 6 floors in the building, the mall has wide range of high-end products to splurge on. If you have got money in your pocket, this mall will look like a heaven to you! It also houses a cinema theatre to keep you entertained.

4. Bara Bazaar
Location: Barabazaar, Purulia District
This one is like the Chandni Chowk of Kolkata! It is the largest wholesale market in the city and offers everything and anything that one can imagine. Right from a small bottle of jam to the intricate wedding trousseau, Bara Bazaar is the hub of all. Though the shops are mostly owned by Gujaratis and Marwaris here, products for even the tiniest custom in your house will be available in this market.

Location: Park Street
Bengalis are intelligent people! They give as much importance to the books as much as to their attire. Thus, finding a bookstore as amazing as this wasn’t any surprise for me! It has a stupendous variety of books and good space to relax and unwind yourself. If you are a book lover, visiting this store is absolutely a must!
