Nagaland Education

The 2001 census report on Nagaland education pointed out that only 67.11 per cent of the total population in Nagaland were literate. Such a low Nagaland education rate is obviously a cause of concern. The Government of Nagaland is working towards increasing the level of elementary Nagaland education. In order to make sure that Nagaland education percolates down into the masses, the Government has introduced a policy of free and compulsory education for all children below the age of 14.

The schools in Nagaland are the base of the Nagaland education system and there are a number of schools in different parts of the state. The most popular schools in the state of Nagaland includes:

  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas
  • Assam Rifles Training Centre High School
  • Little Flower School
  • Vivekanand Kendra Vidyalaya
  • Assam Rifles High School
  • Kendriya Vidyalaya

    There are a number of Colleges in Nagaland and they offer different kinds of courses. These colleges are a major boost to the system of Nagaland education. The types of Colleges in Nagaland include:

    • Hotel Management
    • Law Colleges
    • Polytechnic
    The final level of Nagaland education is the Nagaland University which is a Central University. Established by the Government of India in the year 1994, the University of Nagaland has it campuses in Lumami, Medziphema and Kohima. A total of 47 Colleges are affiliated to this University and there are almost 18,000 student who study under this University.
