Nagaland University

In the year 1989, the Parliament Act No. 35 passed the Nagaland University Act. However, although the Act was passed in the year 1989 it was only in the year 1994 that the Central Nagaland University was established. The Nagaland University is a teaching cum affiliating University and a number of Colleges in Nagaland are affiliated to it.

The headquarter of the Nagaland University is in the city of Lumami and it has a jurisdiction over the entire state of Nagaland. There are a total of 39 collages that are affiliated to the University of Nagaland and the total student strength of the University is around 18,078. The University of Nagaland has campuses all over the state including, Kohima, Lumami and Medsiphema.

The Nagaland University offers different kinds of courses and also has a number of schools of studies. Over all there are a total of 4 schools of studies and 25 departments under the Nagaland University, these include:

  • Department of Geology
  • Department of History and Archeology
  • Department of Commerce
  • Department of Education
  • School of Agricultural Science and Rural Developments
  • Nagaland College of Teacher Education
  • Department of Linguistics
