Chief Minister of Nagaland

The honorable Chief Minister of Nagaland, who is the administrative head of the state, is Sri. Neiphiu Rio. He was appointed as the Chief Minister of Nagaland on 6th March 2003. Mr. Neiphiu Riois the son of Late Guolhoulie Rio, who lived in Tuophema village of the Kohima District.

Born on 11th November, 1950, the Chief Minister of Nagaland belongs to the Angami Naga Tribe. He received his early education from the Baptist English School in Kohima and Sainik School in Purulia, West Bengal. He went on to attend college at St. Joseph' college, Darjeeling and did his graduation from Kohima Arts College.

An active Student leader in his School and College days, Sri. Neiphiu Rio entered into the realm politics at a very young age. He had headed many prestigious organizations before becoming the Nagaland Chief Minister. He had been the President of Kohima District UDF Youth Wing in 1974. Sri. Rio was also appointed as the Chairman of Northern Angami Area Council in 1984. He also had been the honorary vice- President of IRCS Nagaland branch.

On joining politics, Sri. Neiphiu Rio was first elected to Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Northern Angami-II constituency during the 7th General Elections of 1989. He was appointed as the Minister for Sports and School Education. After this, the present Nagaland Chief Minister has also served as:
  • Cabinet Minister for Higher and Technical Education,
  • Cabinet Minister Art and Culture,
  • Chairman of NIDC,
  • Development Authority of Nagaland,
  • Minister for Works and Housing
The Chief Minister of Nagaland, Sri. Neiphiu Rio is the worthy successor of S.C. Jamir, another illustrious figure in Nagaland Government and Politics.
