An extremely popular destination for shooting Hindi films in the 1960's, one still remembers the gorgeous Dal Lake, the Mughal Gardens blooming with flowers or the colourful meadows of Pehalgam or Gulmarg. Film lovers have fond memories of Shammi Kapoor romancing the young and beautiful Sharmila Tagore as a young lass in Kashmir ki Kalli, followed by Shashi Kapoor and Nanda on a shikara in Jab Jab Phool Khile.

Ooty (Tamil Nadu)
Another popular destination with film makers was Ooty, a serene hill station cradled in the Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu. The destination became popular for all the love songs that were shot here with Ooty�s signature tea gardens in the backdrop. Mani Ratnam�s Roja was shot here, as was Karz and Dil Hain Ki Manta Nahin starring Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh)
This capital city of Himachal Pradesh has been another popular destination for shooting. Super hit films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Kareeb were shot here. As were films like the recent, Jab We Met and Three Idiots that were shot in Chail, close to Shimla and other films like 1942 A Love Story, shot in Kasauli.

Mumbai (Maharashtra)
The capital of Maharashtra and the headquarters of Bollywood, Mumbai has been in the backdrop of numerous Hindi films of the 1970's and 1980's, particularly starring the Angry Young Man Amitabh Bachchan in notable films like Deewar, Coolie and Amar Akbar Anthony among others. The Chowpatty and Juhu Beach have been shown in many of these films as well.

Jaipur (Rajasthan)
This is where film makers head when they are looking for a royal location, palaces and havelis in their films. Jaipur has been the location for many film shoots, notably films such as Lamhe starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi and more recently films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa and the Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan film Jodhaa Akbar.
