Ooty to Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary


Of the many excursions from Ooty, one of the most mystical journey is from Ooty to Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary.

A drive of sixty seven kilometers takes one through the tea gardens, gurgling streams and then on to the woodlands of the sanctuary itself. Situated at an elevation of 1140 meters, the sanctuary is a haven for a wide range of bio diversity.

The Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best bird sanctuary in India. It is located very near to Nagarhole which can be covered along with the sanctuary while out on the trip. The varied flora and fauna attracts holiday makers to spend a really good time in the lap of nature away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The avi-fauna varieties in myriad hues attract most of the tourist in the sanctuary and the species include parakeets, crested hawk eagle, goggle eyed plower, Malabar whistling thrush, magpie-robin, small green barbet, large racket-tailed dronge, spotted babbler, green pigeons, Malabar grey horn bill, black woodpecker, brown dove, peacock, red spur fowl,and Malabar trogon.
