The Ooty Lake in the Nilgiri Hills has a length of more than two Kilometers and roughly forms a 'L' shape. The crystal clear Ooty Lake is the venue for various leisure activities like angling and boating. The boat house is the main center of entertainment in Ooty. Just beside the boat house, the children's park is present with the toy-train, which is equally favorite with the kids and the adults. One can also indulge in horse riding on the banks of the lake.

The artificial Ooty Lake is the master mind of the founder of the hill station - John Sullivan. He built the Ooty Lake in 1825. The streams coming down the hills were trapped by a temporary dam and the lake was formed with the accumulated water.

Boating in the Ooty Lake is real fun with the availability of all types of boats like paddle boats, Shikaras, rowing boats, canoes etc. The dawn to dusk boating service keeps the visitors, tourists and revelers entertained.
