Cuttack

The former capital of the state of Orissa, Cuttack is one of the oldest districts of the region. The district is situated near the mouth of the River Mahanadi and is renowned for its crafty antiquities. The administrative headquarters of the district lies in the city of Cuttack.

The district of Cuttack is bound by the Dhenkanal, Balasore, Puri and Keonjhar districts f Orissa. The district covers an encompassing area of 5915 square kilometers and has a massive population of approximately 19,72,739 people. The chief sub divisions of he district are the Banki, Athagarh and Cuttack. The district is further subdivided into a number of administrative blocks. The district is located at an elevated altitude of 14.62 meters above sea level. Cuttack influences an annual rainfall of 144.39 centimeters. The minimum temperature recorded in the district is 22.2 degree centigrade while the maximum temperature rises to 33.4 degree centigrade. Choudwar and Vyasnagar are the industrial centers of the district. The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture. The high yielding paddy fields of the state has earned it the repute of being the granary of eastern Orissa. The crafted art created of silver, brass and horn are also popular in the district. Tourism also generates a lot of revenue in the district. The remnants of the Ganga dynasty can be found in the ruinous remains of the structures that lie along the banks of the river Mahanadi.
