Sri Jagganath Sanskrit university was founded in the year 1981. Sri Jagannath Sanskrit university is one of the oldest Sanskrit universities in India. Located at Puri, this university is under the jurisdiction of the state government of Orissa. This institution has struggled in order to make a mark in the world of Sanskrit. The Sanskrit university of Sri Jagganath has taken almost 18 years to achieve great heights. The university is situated amidst natural surroundings. It is almost 4 kilometers away from the main railway station. This Sanskrit university is known to provide high-class Sanskrit training to their students. The glorious library of the university possess a unique collection of Sanskrit and cultural texts.
It offers training in these spheres, which are namely grammar or "vyakarana", Sanskrit literature or "Sahitya", three sections of Indian philosophy. In the post graduate departments doctorate and post doctorate trainings, post PG training for teachers are available. More than 100 degree and pre-degree colleges are affiliated to the Sri Jagganath Sanskrit University.
Courses offered to the students are as follows:
- Two years Acharya (M.A)
- One year Vshistacharya (M.Phil) in Vyakarana, Sarvadarshan, Veda and Sahitya, Dharmashastra, Nyaya, Adwaita vedanta
With the establishment of this university the old traditional ways of imparting knowledge to the students were revived. The teaching staff has always tried to inculcate amongst their students the old and archaic heritage of Sanskrit that is very rich and varied in itself.
