Governor of Orissa

The Governor of Orissa is the constitutional head of the state. The present Orissa governor is Shri Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. He took over the responsibility from Shri Rameshwar Thakur on 21st August, 2007. He became the 38th governor since Orissa became an independent state. Some of the former governors of Orissa are:

Mr. Bhandare is a well known social worker and an established advocate by profession. Born on 10th December, 1928, Shri Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare is a Marathi by birth.

A well discussed name in Indian politics, Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha in 1980, 1982 and 1988. He has represented India in various conferences and seminars held in different countries like USSR, USA, UK etc.

Shri Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare has served two terms as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association. A keen activist of women rights, his book – The World of Gender Justice - was well received. He has written many interesting and valuable articles on population control, law, human rights etc.
