The Nandankanan Zoological Park is one of the major places of interest that are situated in the state of Orissa. This wildlife sanctuary is one of the most well reputed sanctuaries of the state.
The Nandankanan Zoological Park of Orissa is located at a distance of about 17 kms from Cuttack, 2 kms from the railway station of Barang and 10 kms from the northern edge of the capital city of the state.
The Nandankanan Zoological Park at Orissa gives shelter to a wide variety of wild life. The total number of animals that are found in this sanctuary is 151, of which 49 species are mammals, 75 are birds, 36 species are fish and 27 are reptiles. At present, this park provides shelter to 327 tigers. There are 10 white tigers in the park.
Some of the most well known species of wild animals found here are crocodiles, ratels, pangolins, mouse deer, sambars, panthers, brahminy kites, blackbucks, hill mynas, chousinghas, small Indian civets and storks.
Some endangered animals that are found at this place are gharials, mugger crocodiles, estuarine crocodiles, white-necked storks, peafowls, leopards, tigers, sloth bears, Himalayan black bears, barasinghas, Manipuri deer, Indian pangolins, Nilgir langurs, blackbucks and lion-tailed macaques.
Many other animals are also found at this place like Manipuri deer, rhinos, barasinghas, tigers, wild ass, nilgais, Himalayan black bear, Nilgir langur and lion-tailed macaque. Animals like chimpanzees, hippos, orangutans and zebras are soome of the major attractions for the tourists at the Nandankanan Zoological Park in Orissa.
