The Nandankanan Zoological Park is a famous Orissa wildlife sanctuary. It is situated at a distance of around 17 kms from Cuttack and 2 kms from the railway station of Barang. This sanctuary houses a variety of wild animals like crocodiles, blackbucks, storks, ratels, pangolins, small Indian civets, mouse deer, chousinghas, sambars, hill mynas, panthers and brahminy kites.
The Ushakothi Sanctuary is one of the most well known wildlife sanctuaries at Orissa. It is located in Yavatmal at a distance of around 48 kms from the place called Ushakothi.
Different kinds of plants like neem, arjun, casuarinas, sal, sandalwood and acacia. Many different species of animals like sambals, leopards, tigers, nilgaiands, elephants, chitas and wolves are found here.
The Mahandadi Wildlife Division is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries of Orissa. It is located towards the south of the river called Mahanadi. Many animals like tigers, elephants, striped hyenas, leopards, fishing cats and wild dogs. Plants like bija, bamboo, sal, asan, bahada, amba, rai, palas, amala and harida groe here.
The Simplipal National Park is located in the north-eastern area of Orissa state at a distance of about 320 kms from Bhubaneshwar city and about 250 kms from Kolkata city.
There are also many other wildlife sanctuaries in the state like Satkosia Sanctuary, Ambapani Sanctuary, Khalasuni Sanctuary, Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary and Balukhand Sancturay.
