Panaji Food

Panaji food represents the quintessential Goan cuisine. The cuisine of tropical paradise of Goa and its capital city Panjim (the erstwhile Panaji) has a distinct coastal flavor. The former Portuguese colony was also ruled by Hindu as well as Muslim rulers. The multi-cultural influences have not only influenced the Panaji-People, culture and festivals, it has also cast a permanent impression on the Goan cuisine.

Rice, curry and fish are an integral part of the Panaji food. Usually a Goan meal is finished off with some Feni, a delightfully exotic local wine. The coastal platter is made up of several lip smacking and toothsome sea food delicacies. Fried fish, ambot-tik as well as a host of other sea food items comprise of the mouthwatering gastronomic delights of Goa. People from the bucolic hamlets of Goa tend to cook their food in clay pots or firewood. Hence, the food tends to have a smoky and grilled taste that is a rage with the Goan people.

Be its succulent prawns, juicy sausages, beef, chicken or even vegetarian food, the typical Goan food satiates the palate of all sorts of people. Duck vindaloo, sorpotel and prawn balchao are some of the favorite dishes of the region.
