Bhubaneswar is the capital city of the Orissa state.
According to the census of 2001, Bhubaneswar Parliamentary Constituency has a population of 647,302. Of the population 56% are males and 44% are females. Prasanna Kumar Patasani of BJD has won from the Bhubaneswar Parliamentary Constituency seat in the last three elections (1998, 1999 and 2004).
Bhubaneswar has a number of Hindu temples and is often referred to as the 'temple city of India'. Popular tourist spots in Bhubaneswar include Khandagiri and Udayagiri, the Lingaraj Temple and Dhauli Giri.
