Located along the Indo-Nepal border, Kheri is surrounded by Pilibhit, Bahraich, Hardoi and Shahajahanpur. In the ancient period the region was covered with Khair trees thus the name. Kheri is also the largest district in Uttar Pradesh.
In Lok Sabha elections 2009, Kheri parliamentary constituency has got candidates from various political parties viz Congress, BJP and BSP. Zafar Ali Naqvi is representing Congress from Kheri, on the other hand BJP has filed the nomination of Ajay Mishra Teni while for BSP Illiyas Azmi is contesting elections from Kheri parliamentary constituency, Uttar Pradesh.
