Pondicherry Legislature
Pondicherry Legislature comprises of a legislative assembly which houses a total of 30 members at present. During the winter and budget sessions, the legislative assembly of Pondicherry is fully operational. A range of issues relating to various government sectors are raised in the two sessions of the Pondicherry legislative assembly.
The legislature of Pondicherry has certain rules and regulations following which the legislative assembly of this Union Territory has been formed. For one the time period for which the legislative assembly of Pondicherry remains operational is five years. After five years the term of the legislative assembly in Pondicherry automatically gets terminated.
The Pondicherry Legislature authorizes some responsible and politically knowledgeable personalities to handle the affairs which are dealt with in the budget and winter sessions of the legislative assembly.
Shri Mukti Mithi, a member of the legislative assembly of Puducherry or Pondicherry is also the hon'ble Lt. Governor of the Union Territory. While Thiru N Rangasamy has been endowed with the lead role in the legislative assembly of Pondicherry, Thiru R Radhakrishnan has been elected as the hon'ble speaker of the assembly.
Thiru M Sivaprakasam has been appointed as the secretary of the legislative assembly of the Union Territiry of Pondicherry whereas Thiru a V Sridharan is the respectable Deputy Speaker of the house.
Also, Shri R V Janakiraman is known as the leader of the opposition party in the legislative assembly of Pondicherry.
Being unicameral in nature, the Pondicherry Legislature consists of only one single legislative body within its government framework.
