Pune University is one of the oldest educational institutes in Pune. It was established on 10th February 1949 with Mr. M.R. Jayakar as its first Vice Chancellor. The campus of Pune University covers an area of 400 acres and has many affiliated education institutes and colleges from all parts of Maharashtra State.
In 1949, only 18 colleges were affiliated to the Pune University and had just 8000 students but now it has more than 46 graduate departments, 269 affiliated colleges and 129 recognized research institutions and over 1,70,000 students are enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate courses in different faculties. It has state of the art infrastructure and is housed with facilities necessary for teaching and research programs.
