Districts and the Cities of Punjab present a dynamic and vibrant picture of the state. Punjab has maintained a perfect balance between the agricultural growth and industrial development thus making the state as one of the most affluent state of our country. The state of Punjab with its rich historical and cultural civilization, has numerous developed cities and districts that has added to the glory of Punjab.
The state has about seventeen districts which are culturally as well as economically very progressive. The cities of Punjab are some of the most developed cities of India that present a very healthy picture of the state. The districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar Kapurthala are economically very sound districts with a strong base in agriculture and the various related products. The districts of Jalandhar and Ludhiana are industrially very progressive with some of the best industries within the region. The Mansa and the Muktsar districts are well known for growing some of the best quality of cotton in the region. The Hoshiarpur and the Nawanshehar districts are the educational hubs of the state which houses many well known schools, colleges and universities of the region. The districts of Firozpur and Faridkot are famous for the rice mills and the agriculturally related industries. While the districts of Moga, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Bathinda boasts of a rich historical and cultural legacy.
Punjab also has many well known cities that are important from various perspectives and enhance the status of the state. Most of the important cities are the district headquarters of the various districts of Punjab. The city of Amritsar is referred to as the "Holy City" which is visited by devotees all over the year to seek eternal blessings. Ludhiana is fondly referred to as the "Manchester of India" because of its significant industrial character that supports several industries within the region. Jalandhar is known as the "City of Sports" for its contribution to the sports industries. The master batsman Sachin Tendulkar refers Jalandhar over other region while shopping for his cricket kit. Patiala, Rupnagar and Bathinda are some of the up coming cities of the state which has great prospects for further industrialization.
Punjab is blessed with the bounty of nature. The educated farmers of the state has turned gold out of the fertile alluvial soil of the state. The state has great potential for industrialization, which is explored to its full extend can make Punjab as one of the most developed state of the world.
