Leading the prime community of the state is the Population of Sikh Jats. The men and women belonging to this community are engaged in agricultural activities. Known for their hard-working and determined nature, the Jats are considered as the key resources of economic growth in the state.

Aroras and Khatris are the other communities inhabiting the land of Punjab. Originated from the oldest Aryan civilization, the Khatri people are mainly involved in trade related transactions.

Apart from the major communities that cover a large part of the Punjab Population, the state is populated by many tribes and sub-tribes as well. The prime occupation of some tribal groups like Kambohs and Sainis is cultivation. Some of the other communities that are found in Punjab are:

  • Dhaighares
  • Punjzatis
  • Sarins
  • Bahris
  • Khakharains
