Punjab is a well organized city in terms of its communication systems. Punjab probably has the best infrastructure for roadway communication in India. The Public Works Department of this state has been constantly at work in the building and maintenance of the state's roadways.
Punjab is an agriculturally well developed city. And it has become possible because the transportation system is here very smooth and cost effective. The public works Department is quick enough in constructing standard roads in an economical and cost effective price. The Punjab roadways are connected in all the cities and villages through its passenger transport system. The Punjab roadways have contributed a lot in building a brotherly hood among the Punjabi people.
Punjab roadways mainly advocate metalled roads in most of its villages. These metalled roads have connected the all the villages with their nearest towns. And the towns are connected with other states by national Highways. Punjab roadways has a total of 54836 k.m. long roads passing through the state. There are about 3511 buses who cover 1.05 k.m. distance each day.
Even the Punjab Government has the proposal to built 50 ROBs and 3 Super Bus Terminals in Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana. Even some upgradation projects on Chandigarh-Ludhiyana, Zirakpur-Patiyala, Jagraon-Nakodar, Ropar-Nawanshahar are also ready to go under construction. The National Highway No.1 of Punjab passes through Punjab joining Ambala to Amritsar. This road also links Punjab with Delhi, jam mu and Kashmir and Harayana. Another Highway, National Highway no.21which passes through Chandigarh links Punjab with Himachal Pradesh.
The straight beautiful metalled Punjab roadways have made on road communications much smoother and comfortable.
