Punjab gives around 70% of the best quality cotton in India. The raw material is easily available and this has certainly facilitated the growth of this industry in Punjab. The major cotton mills are situated at Abohar, Malout, Phagwara, Amristar, Kharar and Ludhiana.
The Sugar mills in Punjab are placed at Batala, Gurdaspur, Bhogpur, Phagwara, Nawanshahar, Zira, Morinda, Rakhra, Dhuri, Fazilka, Nakodar, Budhewal, Bhatinda and Jagraon.
The prime source of milk and various other dairy products is the buffalo. Punjab ranks first in the country in its availability of milk. The plants are centered at Verka (Amristar district), Ludhiana, Mohali, Jalandhar, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Sangrur, Bhatinda, Faridkot, Nabha, Moga, Kot Kapura and Hamira.
Punjab is on a way to bring major improvements in its industry and infrastructure. They are developing 'Industry Specific Infrastructure Development' and 'Attracting Investments'.
