Guru Nanak Dev University

Guru Nanak Dev University is one of the highly esteemed universities in the Indian state of Punjab. It was set up on the five hundredth birth anniversary of the great Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The date was the twenty forth of November in the year 1969. It was paying tribute to the great Guru.

Guru Nanak Dev University is both an affiliating and a residential university. The objectives of the University are enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act, which was chalked out in 1969. It laid emphasize on providing education and encouraging research in various categories. These are humanities, sciences, learned professions, applied science, science and technology etc.

Special importance is given on the study and research the great saint, Guru Nanak. His life and teachings are emphasized in addition to the upgradation of Punjabi language. The University at present boasts of thirty-seven educational departments among which two are regional centers, two are colleges apart from the numerous administrative units. More recently, it also has indulged into job-oriented courses on subjects like applied sciences and others.

Guru Nanak Dev University has immense contribution in providing higher education to the women. As it is an affiliating University, it has under it more than hhundred colleges. These are situated in the districts like, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Nawanshehar.
