Punjab University

Punjab University is a much-esteemed university in the Indian state of Punjab. It is situated at Chandigarh, the state capital of Punjab. It is a renowned university and students from all over Punjab and outside come to the Punjab University to study.

Panjab University has a long and rich custom of providing students with high standard education since its inception. The university's motto has always been to be dedicated teaching and research. It has numerous courses, which covers subjects like science and technology, social sciences, humanities, performing arts, sports etc.

The yearly budget estimates estimation of the Panjab University has amounted to rupees one hundred and thirty one crores approximately for the academic year 2006t to 2007.

Panjab University has a total number of forty-six departments of teaching and research. Apart from this there are ten chairs for teaching and research in the campus of Chandigarh. The university has one hundred and fifty affiliated colleges across Punjab and Chandigarh. There are some Regional Centers at Hoshiarpur, Muktsar and Ludhiana.

The main campus of the university at Chandigarh encompasses an area of over five hundred and fifty acres. It contains the main administrative and academic buildings, a high quality health centre, sports and athletic complex and residential area and the hostels.

The Punjab University campus has a hall known as the Gandhi Bhawan, which is a rich architectural structure. Tourists from all over the world visit this hall. It also has a library and an auditorium in it. The university has as many as four museums and it houses a theatre lab, which is under the department of Indian theatre, which is something remarkable. This all-inclusive university has a Medicinal Plants' Garden and a Botanical Garden inside the university campus.
