Punjab State Parties

The political parties of Punjab can be categorized into two types: National Parties and State Parties. Though in the political scenario the state parties predominate. The political parties that are accredited in four or more than four states are known as the National parties. The Election Commission of India provides this status by examining the election results in the different states. Due to this recognition from the Election Commission of India, the political parties are liable to claim ownership on certain identities, like the party symbol. The presence of the National parties are more extensive compared to to State parties.

The State Parties of Punjab have contributed immensely to the development of the state. Since the economy of the state is chiefly agrarian the problems of the farmers have been represented in a better way by the State Parties of Punjab.

The State Parties of Punjab are: Shiromani Akali Dal is one of the oldest parties of Punjab led by Badal.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) was formed after splitting from the Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal on 7th June , 2004. The president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) is Prem Singh Chandumajra. He was the former general secretary of Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal from Patiala.
