Dera Baba Nanak, Gurudaspur is closely related to the life and philosophy of Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak left his sacred clothes and became a devoted householder. He earnestly believed that original renunciation is attainable by leading a family life and practicing renunciation simultaneously. According to him, this two-fold path helps a person to fulfill all the worldly duties and still remain detached from all the worldly obligations.
Guru Nanak also stressed on the importance of an honest livelihood. Guru Nanak spent his mornings and evenings in prayer and spent his days farming at the fields of
Dera Baba Nanak, Gurudaspur.
Where: Dera Baba Nanak, Gurudaspur is situated at a distance of 55 kilometer from the city of Amritsar in Gurdaspur district. Guru Nanak spent the last few days of his life at this place. This place is situated on the Indo-Pak border, on the left bank of river Ravi. It is said that Guru Nanak used to return to this place regularly for meditation. The further side of the river is presently a part of Pakistan. Guru Nanak breathed his last at this place. So, this is regarded as a sacred place by the Sikhs.
When: The fair at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurudaspur is celebrated every year in the month of January.
