The village of Kila Rajpur proudly hosts the Rajpur Sports Festival every year, where men and women of various age groups participate in different sports events. This festival is also popularly known as "Rural Olympics".You will find many events in this festival. Kabaddi, horse riding, weight lifting and wrestling are some of the most popular competitions that people take part in. The Rajpur Sports Festival is organized by the Grewal Sports Association. This is a three day long event and takes place at the Grewal Stadium.
Kila Rajpur is a very well known village near Ludhiana. During the three days of the Rajpur Sports Festival people from various corners of India come here to participate in the festival. International participants are also being seen in the "Rural Olympics" these days.
Some of the common scenes in the Rajpur Sports Festival are carts being pulled by mules, participants of above seventy years in age showing their physical strength, a young boy spinning on his thumb and another young man pulling a truck with his teeth. Cock fight and ram fights are also important events of this festival. The hockey match also attracts many spectator.
The festive spirit of the village people is also a major attraction of the Rajpur Sports Festival, beside the main events. People from the nearby villages also gather here to cheer the participants and enjoy the competitions. Punjabi folk songs are also played on the public address system to keep the ambiance racy and full of life.
The Grewal Sports Association hopes that with the rise in international participation the Rajpur Sports Festival will receive an official recognition.
