Rauza Sharif, Sirhind

Rauza Sharif, Sirhind is a mausoleum which marks the burial place of Mujadid-alf-Saani Seikh Ahmed Farooqi. He was a Sirhindi who lived from 1563 to 1634, during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir. This place is situated at a distance of 50 km from Patiala. There is also an old mosque and several cenotaphs near the spacious and splendid Rauza. Rauza Sharif, Sirhind was once considered the burial place for the powerful and high born people. The very presence of the tomb of Shah Zaman, one of the mighty kings of Afghanistan proves this fact. It is known that some Muslim sects regard this place only next to Mecca in importance. Every year in the month of August a great Urs is held in this place.

Every year Muslims pilgrims from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and other countries visit this place to participate in the Urs of Shaikh Ahmed Sirhindi. The date of celebration vary from year to year. This festival is considered very important by the Sunni sect of Islam.

This mausoleum is located on the Sirhind- Bassi Pathana Road near the Gurdwara of Fatehgarh Sahib. The Rauza Sharif, Sirhind has a magnificent medieval structure. During the Urs the surrounding area of the mausoleum is gorgeously decorated with lights and appears lively.

You can avail buses from Patiala in order to reach Rauza Sharif, Sirhind. The place can also be reached from Chandigarh. You can avail road as well as rail transport from the Chandigarh city.

Thus the best time to visit the famous Rauza Sharif, Sirhindi is during the Urs of Shaikh Ahmed Sirhindi.
